2025-26 University Budget

26 May 2025

Mount 杏吧传媒鈥檚 Board of Regents officially approved the 2025-26 University budget at its spring meeting May 13.

The full budget document can be found on the University website at: 2025-26 University Budget

A summary of budget assumptions and key facts is provided as an introduction to the detailed budget document. The University has budgeted an operating deficit for the last six years and this will continue in 2025-26.

The University has remained committed to carefully prioritizing investments in academic programs, student recruitment, and student services. A strategic plan is currently being developed, which will be supported by a financial sustainability plan to maintain the University鈥檚 long-term financial health.

Key Assumptions

  • Enrolment is expected to decrease approximately 2%.
  • Government grants increased by 1% plus the performance鈥揳djusted funding achieved in 2024-25.
  • The Provincial Government has indicated there will be no additional performance-based funding for 2025-26.
  • Tuition will increase by 4.75% for the 2025鈥26 academic year 鈥 an average of $400鈥$500 more per student annually. This adjustment enables the University to reinvest directly into initiatives that support learning, well鈥揵eing, and campus life. These investments include:
    • A new Coordinator for the University鈥檚 Aviation program.
    • Continued funding for the on-campus social worker and Nimbus peer tutoring.
    • Extended Athletic Therapist support and enhanced Residence Life staffing.
    • A 9% increase to the student assistant budget, supporting more roles and hours.
    • More financial aid: $5.52M in 2025鈥26, up 2% from the previous year.

鈥淭his budget reflects our commitment to supporting the student experience while planning responsibly for Mount 杏吧传媒鈥檚 long-term financial health,鈥 says Vice President, Finance and Administration Robert Inglis. 鈥淲e continue to make investments to enhance wellness, learning and campus life for our students.鈥

Mount 杏吧传媒 continues to be ranked as #1 undergraduate university in Canada by Maclean鈥檚 magazine 鈥 a distinction awarded a record 25 times 鈥 known for its close-knit community, small class sizes, and access to world-class faculty.

Enhancing Student Support & Campus Life

In the 2025鈥26 academic year, initiatives in wellness, residence life, and learning support are part of a broader effort to ensure students feel supported and set up for success:

  • A new role will be introduced in Student Affairs: Student Support Guides will assist students in navigating supports, resources, and programming at Mount 杏吧传媒.
  • Enhanced financial aid and bursary programs, targeting low-income and underrepresented students.
  • A new Residence Life Zone 鈥 a welcoming space for residence student events and gatherings.

Construction has begun on the new Multi-Sport Complex and Interim Library. This major project will enhance student life, promote wellness, and support academic success.

In line with our commitment to sustainability, a financial sustainability plan is being developed alongside the strategic planning process. This work will guide future priorities and support the University鈥檚 goal of achieving a balanced budget.
